The horizontal ribbon mixer (also known as the horizontal plough blade mixer) is an indispensable high-efficiency mixing apparatus in modern industrial production. Its unique design philosophy addresses the challenge of uniformly blending diverse materials such as powders, granules, slurries, and viscous substances, finding extensive application across industries including chemicals, plastics, foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, animal feed, and building materials.
Standard models employ high-strength gear reducers for direct drive, delivering high torque, exceptional reliability, and low noise. Larger units utilize gear reducers combined with belt drives, providing protection for transmission components during unexpected incidents.
Diverse mixing components are available, including screw ribbon and plow blade configurations according to site conditions. Flying knives can also be added to the vessel sidewalls for secondary material reduction.
The synergistic action of multiple mixing principles—convection, shear, and diffusion—achieves exceptionally high uniformity within a short timeframe, leaving no dead zones.
The discharge outlet is typically designed as a large-opening valve, enabling rapid and thorough unloading, and facilitating easy cleaning and maintenance.

The core feature of this equipment lies in its horizontally mounted U-shaped mixing trough and the meticulously designed internal mixing rotor. The rotor is typically equipped with multi-layered ribbon-shaped spiral blades (ribbons) and/or a series of ploughshare-shaped blades (plough blades).
Ribbon Structure: Typically comprising a central spiral ribbon and an outer spiral ribbon, both rotating in opposite directions. This design enables materials within the trough to undergo simultaneous axial and radial three-dimensional compound motion. A portion of the material is propelled towards one end while another portion is directed towards the opposite end, creating an efficient counter-current circulation mixing effect.
Ploughshare configuration: The ploughshare blades rotate at high speed, vigorously dispersing, shearing, and tumbling the material much like ploughing soil. This effectively breaks up lumps and resolves material agglomeration issues, making it particularly suitable for processes requiring rapid dispersion and mild pulverisation.
